Miracles Still Happen

Miraculous – Part 4

I said I would share stories from the Bible, as well as from our current time. My mom (Cheryl) had been diagnosed with something incurable yet years later it was miraculously cured. She had cardiomyopathy which is chronic disease of the heart muscle. Her original diagnosis started with hypertension which led to an enlarged heart. She had a heart attack due to blood loss anemia and was then diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. Her ejection fraction (percent of blood leaving the heart each time it contracts) was around 15% which placed her in the heart failure category. She was also on medicine for congestive heart failure. As a believer a diagnosis like this may be difficult to swallow. It didn’t happen all at once but it was a problem that was said to not be curable. She was told she would have to live with it. She, over time, had accepted this diagnosis. However, her mother (Doris) did not accept it. Doris prayed daily for her daughter’s healing, claiming Bible verses all along. Some of the verses she claimed over Cheryl were Jeremiah 30:17, “For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord, ‘Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.” Psalms 103:2-4 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,” and Isaiah 53:3 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” (NKJV)

After many years of prayer the healing came. It came in a strange way. Cheryl thought she was having another heart attack, so she went to the hospital. The doctor was baffled and asked her what caused her to think she had a heart attack. She explained that it was just like the heart attack she had many years prior. He then explained to her that he was confused because her record said she has cardiomyopathy but the current angiogram shows a healthy heart. The cardiomyopathy was cured! There was no evidence of ever having had a heart attack. She believes that what she thought was a heart attack was a tool God used so that she would have medical evidence of her miracle.

A few months prior to the doctors confirming this healing God had given her a vision.  In the vision, God took her old, broken, worn-out heart and replaced it with a new one. She actually saw Jesus take her heart and put it in his chest, then he took his heart and put it in her chest; the Great Exchange. Job 5:9 says, “We cannot understand the great things he does, and to his miracles there is no end.” There is no end to the miracles of God.

God is healing people continuously. Also, there are times that the miracle doesn’t happen in our timing. It doesn’t have to happen when you want it for you to believe that it will happen.

A few verses to encourage you. 1.) Psalm 27:14 “Wait patiently for the Lord.  Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (NLT) 2.) Psalm 130:5 “I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.” (NLT) 3.) Isaiah 31

In our example, Cheryl had to wait many years to receive a new heart from God. She relied on God for every aspect of her life and still does. There was fervent prayers offered up on her behalf. Prayer coupled with claiming scripture makes a huge difference. I hate being in the waiting season but each time I go through one I grow and learn remarkably. God cares more about our character than our comfort. He wants us to be healthy and whole. If he didn’t, why would he have designed our bodies to heal themselves?

I challenge you to find verses that apply to the healing, breakthrough, or miracle you need and pray them daily. Don’t stop in a day or a week but keep doing this persistently and consistently until you see results. I recently read it put this way, “A river cuts through rock not because of its power, but its persistence.” This is how we should be with our prayers. We know we are praying God’s will because God’s wills us to be healthy; he designed us to self-heal. Pray, pray then pray again. Your miracle is on its way even it you don’t see it yet.
