About

Hope and Loathing is a place for you to come and learn more about God, the Bible and yourself. The name actually came to my husband in a prophetic dream. When he first shared the title with me, years ago, I thought it was a strange title.  I was recently talking to God in the shower, one of the best places for prayer, and he told me that this was the title of the book that I was going to be writing soon.

Loathing is an intense dislike or hatred.  In our culture, it is normal to loath much without even recognizing it as such.  I see so much self-loathing in the world around me. God has placed a deep desire within my heart to deal with it. Starting with spreading hope, love, and encouragement through this blog, writing books, and in my everyday interactions.

Hope is the other side of the coin.  You can’t have hope and hatred at the same time.  Unless what you hope for is death. I recently heard a static, 1 in 4 people have seriously contempted and planned their suicide.  I believe this statistic to be true and this blog is my response. Let’s learn to hope, learn to love ourselves, learn to love the world and those in it. Let God minister to you, renew your hope, and restore your life and relationship.

My name is Alicia Harper. I was raised in a non-denominational church. I was, at one point in time, convinced that I didn’t have a testimony because I have been a Christian for as long as I can remember.  I have learned that each of us has a unique story, a unique perspective and unique struggle in life. I know I am not alone in my struggles. At one point, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). I have had those suicidal thoughts and wanted to give up my faith. I say those things just to give a small glimpse into my life.  One day in my prayer time, God told me to use my struggles to help others with their struggles. I have a story and so do you. So I share my stories with the purpose of inspiring, encouraging and building hopes and dreams in others. I, also, base blogs largely on the Bible.
