God is Our Provider

God as provider is not simply about money.  When we talk about someone being a provider for their family, we generally mean that they are the person who brings home the most money.  God does so much more than provide for our finances. God gave us the Holy Spirit, who is known as the Comforter. God provides for every aspect of our lives, not just financially, but also physically, emotionally and mentally, as well as in giving us time and creating room for growth.  Name an area of your life that you need more of something in and ask Him to show you His provision in it. He will provide for your every need.

What matters to you, matters to God. In that not only does He provide for your every need but He also makes provision for your desires.  Recently my little sister and I flew together. She had purchased her ticket the month before the flight yet I didn’t purchase it until two days before.  God knew I was missing family and wanted to be home for the birth of my twin niece and nephew, so He provided the ticket for me and the comfort of knowing I wasn’t alone.  God didn’t stop there. Since, we didn’t buy our tickets together or want to spend the extra money to pick our seats, we knew that we would have to ask someone to trade seats to sit next to each other.  I didn’t feel comfortable doing that. My sister and I prayed that God would take care of it. As we were boarding the plane my sister received the printed boarding pass, that she wanted but didn’t ask for, because they changed her seat.  I said, “Well that’s a bummer.” They realized that we were together even though we had purchased separately and they moved my seat as well. God cares about those little desires. He wants to provide for us and this is just one of the many examples of how He has provided even in the desires and not just my needs.

Anxiety doesn’t see the provision of God because it is focused on the problem.  Whereas, trust in God doesn’t see the problem because it knows that God will make provision in every situation. This is something that God tells me.  He asks me if I trust Him. When my eyes are focused on how capable He is as my provider my problems seem so small. However, when I focus on the problem anxiety makes it feel bigger than everything, including God.  There are times where it is easy to see God’s provision and times that it is hard.

We find an example of provision in Genesis 22:1-14.  God calls Abraham to test him. He tells him to take the son, that He finally provided him with, and sacrifice him.  Abraham is obedient because he knows that God will provide for him. When his son asks what they are going to sacrifice, Abraham speaks with faith and says that God will provide. Sure enough, God provided an alternate sacrifice and spared the son.  Abraham went on to name that place “The Lord will Provide.”

Whatever season you are in, God is still your provider.  It isn’t just money that He provides. He provides health in spirit, in mind, and in your physical body.  He provides for your family. He will make a way. Sometimes, He provides in the little things like changing your seat or a printed boarding pass.  Sometimes He provides by showing you how to get out of debt. He has sent His Holy Spirit as a comforter. He wants to provide in every aspect of your life.  He wants you to be filled with peace, rest in Him, and thrive knowing that He will provide in your current situation.

Ask God to show you His miraculous provision.  He is already doing it even though it may be hard to see.  He is guiding you. He is your protection. He is feeding you.  He is moving and doing. He isn’t asleep and you aren’t disturbing Him by asking.  Just ask Him to shine light on it and to give you the eyes to see. As you see and understand His provision, your trust in knowing Him as provider will grow.  As your trust in God as provider grows, the anxiety and worries of the world will shrink. You can’t truly trust God and be anxious at the same time so choose to trust God, let the worries and anxiety melt at your sides and thrive.
